Butler & Rose
Investment & Care Guide
Investment Value
Diamond prices have steadily risen since the 1950s because they are sought after, have improved with technology and are associated with love, success and affluence. 'Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and good quality and sparkle will always be desirable.
Fluorescence can make a diamond more cloudy or more blue on the inside. Small traces can sometimes be a nice thing, but from an investment perspective, aim to have no traces of fluorescence in your diamond. The certificate, or a blue light will indicate this.
With investment in mind, choose a good quality diamond before focusing on size. A bright, sparkling, clear diamond will bring more joy and hold its value in a way that a larger lifeless stone will not. Make sure it is certified.
Remember, your investment pays back sooner, the less you pay for it, so be wise and smart with your money.
Insurance & Valuations
Most people insure their valuable purchase with an insurance company. The most common practice is to list the item under your house insurance. While you can individually insure an item, it's often quite expensive to do so.
To get your piece of jewellery insured you will need a valuation signed by a professional jeweler. We offer a complimentary valuation with all Butler & Rose jewellery. The valuation is then submitted to your
insurance company on record.
We recommend shopping around for your insurance to find the terms and conditions that suit you best.
After Care
While our jewellery is handmade in the UK & Ireland to the highest standard in the world, these precious items are not invincible and care is required. If you are ever uncertain of how to enjoy your Butler & Rose jewellery please contact us for advice.
Precious metals after time will need to be polished to bring the ring back to a lustrous finish, and, white gold will need to be re-rhodium plated to return its colour to white. The best advice we can offer for cleaning your gemstones is to get a cup of hot water, add a dab of washing-up liquid and use an old toothbrush to clean over, and underneath your gem (the exceptions to this rule are emeralds and opals). Emeralds and opals require extra attention to remain as beautiful as the day you bought them.
Remember, a brand new car can still get a scratch. We only use platinum and 18ct gold in our jewellery for its desirability and strength. Your jewellery joins you on your journey, so try to give some extra consideration to gardening, gyming, typing, or being active whilst you're enjoying your fine jewellery from Butler & Rose.
